David and Judy Bye of Plainview, Texas, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a family dinner at their home on March 13, 2022.
The couple met on a blind date to a basketball game at Iowa State University. Judy’s roommate was supposed to go on the date but bailed at the last minute. Judy went in her place. When David saw her walking down the dorm stairs, he knew she was “the one”!
They were married on March 3, 1962, at the Congregational Church in Farragut, Iowa. The couple moved to Plainview in 1966.
David worked as a dairy farmer for 29 years. He was a professor at West Texas State University and then a teacher at the Windham School District for 15 years. Judy worked as a home economics teacher in Lockney, a teacher at the adult education center in Plainview, and an early childhood teacher for Plainview ISD. She finished her career as an educational counselor for the Windham School District.
David and Judy are long time members of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Plainview.
Their children, Angie (David) Rowley of San Antonio, TX, Mickey (Dena) Bye of Tulia, TX, and Lisa (Marc) Nunley of Torrance, CA, hosted a barbecue dinner with all the fixings at the couple’s home. Special guests included David’s sister, Susan Bernau, from West Des Moines, IA, and Judy’s brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Shirley Annan from Apache Junction, AZ. In addition, they enjoyed a Facetime visit with brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Heather Bye from Huntley, IL.
During the celebration, the couple shared stories of their wedding day, the challenges of raising a family, and their traveling adventures to see their grandchildren participate in different activities. They are blessed with nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren: Keenan (Melanie) Rowley, Dakota Rowley, Garrett (Lauryn) Bye, Scott (Berkleigh) Bye, Cooper Bye, Cody Bye, Catherine Nunley, Alexander Nunley, and Andrew Nunley, Alia Stone, and Keaton Ruzick.
