Welcome to Wedding Hell (결혼백서) is a Korean romantic drama TV series that focuses on the craziness that is marriage. Starring Lee Jin-uk, Lee Yeon-hee, and Song Jin-woo, alongside other cast members, the series has 12 episodes and Welcome to Wedding Hell episode 1 is titled First Pitch and has a runtime of around 34 minutes.
Netflix describes the series as:
A marriage proposal is supposed to be a happy ending. But for one couple, it becomes the beginning of an uphill struggle over wedding preparations.

Welcome to Wedding Hell episode 1 starts with love birds Na-eun and Jun-hyeong in the park on a cold night. Na-eun is clearly ready to get married, dreaming of having a sweet and loving partnership like a precious couple in the park. However, she doesn’t share her concerns with her boyfriend, although it doesn’t seem like he’s the uber-romantic type. Either way, he’s caring and that’s quite apparent in how they interact with each other.

Na-eun’s friends, too, think it’s a good time to get married – they’ve been together for two years and are also of the right age. It’s the perfect time to make the jump. Na-eun likes the idea and is excited at the prospect. However, she expresses that Jun-hyeong hasn’t expressed any such wish as of yet. When she mentions that she will talk to Jun-hyeong about it, Hui-seon tells her not to – marriages happen only when the man wants to. Instead, she asks her to make him bring up the topic first.
Later, when Na-eun meets Jun-hyeong, she jokingly brings up what Hui-seon mentioned and he immediately looks super uncomfortable and changes the topic mid-sentence. Na-eun is taken aback but doesn’t take the topic further, Hui-seon’s words ringing in her ears. She again brings up the topic at dinner, but Jun-hyeong changes the topic abruptly again. Her worst fears are proved when she mentions marriage again and he starts choking on water.

She runs off to the bathroom and calls Hui-seon to tell her what happened and the latter tells her that it’s rude to bring up the topic when he isn’t interested. She wonders why he would ignore the topic like this and Hui-seon tells her to calm down and not overthink things. Coming out of the bathroom, she is annoyed seeing him on the phone and thinks back to when they first met in college.
Jun-hyeong started off their interaction with a very lame joke and although Na-eun was uninterested at first, his sincerity drew her to him. She thought that she always had the upper hand, considering he liked her so much. She always thought that things would go her way, but now that she is thinking about it, things have taken a complete 180. When she sits down, she informs that she wants to leave but, thanks to Jun-hyeong’s Midas’ Touch, they end up on a yacht ride.
Na-eun is annoyed throughout the duration while Jun-hyeong is oblivious to her feelings. She is shocked to learn, however, when she goes below deck that Jun-hyeong has already planned a surprise proposal. Shocked at the suddenness of the situation, Na-eun starts crying and feels a bit ashamed for how she behaved the entire day.

As a video plays of Jun-hyeong thanking her for agreeing to marry her, we see a flashback of his friend asking him why he wants to marry Na-eun instead of someone else. He thinks a bit and realises it’s because the person is Na-eun and he loves her more than anything and wants to share his life with her till the end. It’s absolutely adorable watching the two so happy together and later in the car, they discuss the process he went through to make this proposal happen – an uphill battle indeed!
The next day, Na-eun and her friends start discussing when they should plan the wedding and Hui-seon mentions that planning is the hardest part of the wedding! Na-eun doesn’t believe her, but I have a feeling her thoughts are going to change in a few months. On the other hand, Jun-hyeong, too, gets ready for war.

Welcome to Wedding Hell episode 1 starts off with a bang and a proposal, something the romantics would love to watch. If you’re someone who just needs to push back for half an hour and with funny thoughts and rainbows, this series will definitely give you all that. When it comes to first impressions, Jin-uk and Yeon-hee have great chemistry, with Jin-uk’s Jun-hyeong coming off as a goofy and hopeless romantic who is head-over-heels for his partner.
However, we are yet to learn of the hell in all of this. As Hui-seon mentions, the proposal is just the beginning. The tough part is the planning. The next episode will feature meeting the parents, so that will definitely bring quite some drama to the narrative. if nothing else, the series will be extremely dramatic to keep us occupied and entertained. All in all, the series does what it promises and I am honestly excited to watch the next episode!
